Located 3 hour drive north of Auckland on the East Coast along the beautiful subtropical coastal islands.

​

Cherry Tree Cottage is an old Kauri cottage originally built circa 1840’s in NZ near the manganese mines in Russell. She was transported by barge to the pool of swirling water at the bottom of Haruru Falls where trading and commerce between Maori and Pakeha immigrants was flourishing in the 1800’s when roads were not established and trade was facilitated by horse, oxen, ship, waka maori canoe and on foot from tribes who would convene along the Waitangi River and shores of The Bay of Islands region.

 

She is now located 3 km from Paihia in Haruru Falls, Bay of Islands (BoI) on Puketona Road. Our family bought the cottage in March 2017 and it has been going through renovations.  The ¼ acre property is located right across from the scenic Haruru Falls.

The Treaty of Waitangi was signed in the BOI.  Tours of the Treaty Grounds, other sacred historical sites, are available.

Kids and parents can:

• play in the tree house

• practice skeet shooting

• collect fresh eggs

• pick homegrown fruit and veggies

• listen to the babble of the stream

• watch native birds

• scope out the water fall across the street

• kayak down the river 

• jump off native Pahutakawa trees overlying the river at high tide

• watch the sunsets across the skies while roasting marsh mellows and listening to tales of old times in the Bay of Islands. 

 

We like to think of it as FAMILY CAMP!

Accommodation – 

2 guest bedrooms at the front of the house. One room has an ensuite with toilet, bath/shower, sink. The two rooms can sleep up to 6.  Guests share the cottage kitchen and living areas.  

 

Prices vary depending on package and length of stay:

Couple per night $120

Families with 1-3 children $150 night 

We offer and welcome discussion to arrange home stays with work in exchange for room/board.
